Question:

I am on the verge of foreclosure, and have been approached by many individuals. I have heard of foreclosure scams with things like Deed theft, how does that work?

Answer: (1)

Con artists who offer to bail homeowners out of their impending foreclosures are often committing deed theft. In deed theft, the scammer deceives homeowners into transferring over ownership of their home to another party, often by promising that they can buy back their property in a year, but this buy-back doesn’t happen. The homeowner is usually evicted and the house sold at a profit for the scammer instead. To combat deed theft, more and more states are passing laws which regulates how a homeowner's deed is registered and recorded. For more information, talk to a criminal defense lawyer.
